Medical Care in the Dominican Republic Should you require it, you can count on a top quality medical service. Ranges from quite good, to very limited, depending on where you are and what type of medical care you require. Hospiten has two hospitals, one in Bavaro-Punta Cana, the leading tourist resort area and the second in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. They have all the latest technological developments, not just in the field of medicine, but also in the area of management, to ensure a top class health service. And what is more important still, they have experienced medical staff who are committed to providing you with humane and personalized care. The Grupo HOSPITEN (HOSPITEN Group) is an international network of private hospitals, with over 1,000 beds, committed to providing high-level healthcare services. We see over 500,000 patients every year. The result of our commitment can be seen in our twelve hospital centres located in major cities and tourist centres in countries such as Spain, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. All of our centres are equipped with the latest technological innovations in the medical and management fields, and are staffed by a team of recognised professionals providing the top-level healthcare services that characterise the HOSPITEN Group. HOSPITEN's commitment to quality can be seen in the fact that the GroupŽs centres have been certified in accordance with the most exacting European and American rules and standards, having obtained the AENOR Certificate of Quality, under ISO 9001:2000 international regulations and ISO 14001:2004 regulations on the management of the environment. These certificated extend to all areas and services offered in our hospitals, from Accident & Emergency, Outpatients, Hospitalisation, Operating Theatres, ICUs and Laboratories to support services, such as Maintenance, Linen, Cleaning Services etc. The new ISO 14001:2004 regulations came into force in November 2004. For that reason, within the framework of the Annual Strategic Plan, the company decided that the Sistema Integrado de la Calidad y de Gestión del Medio Ambiente (Integrated System for Quality and Management of the Environment) ought to be adapted to the new regulations. External audits were carried out over the course of December 2004 at the HOSPITEN hospitals in the Dominican Republic and Mexico, it being decided that these be conducted under the new environmental regulations. As a result of those audits, our Caribbean centres were the first to be certified under the new ISO 14001:2004 regulations, as well as being the first hospitals in Spain, Mexico and the Dominican Republic to obtain such certification. Having such a system for guaranteeing quality carries a number of advantages, above all on a competitive level. We have continued to increase levels of overall patient satisfaction levels during the treatment process; personnel motivation has risen in such a way as to pass it on to our clients; and we have achieved greater efficiency in the development of our activities. It must be highlighted that the hospitals holding Quality and Environment certificates also obtained the Integrated Certificate for Quality and Environment under the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 international regulations, this certificate will allow integrated quality and environmental audits to be carried out. This project brings us closer to our clients and, hence makes our service far more immediate. This way, we can offer enhanced security for residents and tourists alike, as we are providing high quality medical services in these areas. With a carefully selected team of professional doctors and nursing staff, Clinic Assist offers medical laboratory and radiology services, home or hotel care, programmed transfers, ambulance service and emergency service 24 hours a day. In the Dominican Republic, this network of doctor’s surgeries encompasses towns like Bavaro, Juan Dolio, Boca Chica and Puerto Plata. Vaccinations At present time, no special vaccinations are required before visiting. Travel Medical Insurance Travel medical insurance is strongly recommended. Confirm with the insurance provider that the policy covers emergency expenses including emergency medical evacuation. Medical evacuation can be very costly and most doctors and hospitals require payment for services up front. It would be wise to know if your insurance provider will pay healthcare provider directly, make payment on your behalf, or if you will have to make payment and then reimbursed afterwards for the medical expenses incurred. |
