We just returned from a 4 week stay in a rental condo located in El Cortecito, Bavaro, Punta Cana.  We were pleasantly surprised when the condo was EXACTLY as pictured online.  Beautiful 2-bedroom, 2-bath, 3rd floor rental with a private rooftop deck.  We did not need a car as everything from shops, restaurants, groceries, and -- most importantly -- the beach was only a 5 minute walk away!  After having visited the Dominican Republic two years earlier with a resort stay, we decided that we wanted to come back and not feel confined to a resort.  We chose this area (Arenas de Bavaros)because we wanted to experience "local" living.  Everyone we met was friendly and helpful.  We enjoyed exploring the unending white sand beach and all it has to offer.  We could walk forever! We also learned to cook with all the wonderful fresh fish, fruits and vegetables.  Our new-found favorite is fried green bananas...mmmmm!  Plans are already in the making for a 6 (maybe 8) week stay next year.  Great way to escape winter's "cabin fever"!
